IRMA and other orgs write to HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt about the ban

Click here for a copy of the sign-on letter (August 12, 2008) to Secretary of Health and Human Services Mike Leavitt regarding the HIV-related travel and immigration ban, signed by nearly 200 organizations, including IRMA.

 

IRMA and other orgs ask for the HIV+ travel ban to be lifted

About 160 organizations joined forces to call for the lifting of a travel ban on HIV positive people who want to come to the United States . The organizations, including IRMA, asked the US Senate to lift the ban as part of legislation to re-authorize PEPFAR, the Presidents Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. IRMA signs letter to UNAIDS in support of sexual minorities

The Global Forum on MSM and HIV sent a letter to Dr. Peter Piot, Executive Director of UNAIDS, on April 18, 2008, regarding the debate over the upcoming UNAIDS Gender Guidance. With more than one hundred signatures, including IRMA's, this letter strongly encourages UNAIDS to include sexual minorities as part of Gender Guidance. The letter can be found here.

• Read one fact sheet or news item on rectal microbicides from the website
• Sign up for the IRMA listserv through the website
• Pass along our web address and contact information to another advocate,
researcher, policy maker or potential funder.

If you only have 30 to 60 minutes…

• Dial-in to one of IRMA’s regular free teleconferences featuring world leaders in
the field of rectal microbicide research and advocacy
• Read some of the excellent resources here, including our new report "Less Silence, More Science" in IRMA Materials
• Download one of the prepared presentations and host a discussion with your
co-workers or other group in Resources
• Talk to other members in your community about your interest in rectal
microbicides

If you want to engage actively in shaping the rectal microbicide field…

• Join one of IRMA’s working groups to help us meet our objectives
• Offer to join IRMA’s Steering Committee
• Become your community’s spokesperson for the research and development
of safe, effective and acceptable rectal microbicides by enlisting organizational
support, conducting ongoing presentations and strategically engaging the media
with support and direction from IRMA
• Reach out to advocates, researchers, policy makers and funders and ask them to
join IRMA, to create policy that illuminates the importance of rectal microbicides,
and to provide financial support for research and advocacy activities
