"Aspectos básicos sobre Microbicidas y PEP" - presented by F. Javier Arellano (Clínica Condesa) on September 23, 2008 in Ixtapan de la Sal, México. In Spanish.

"Making Anal Sex Safer for MSM in the Developing World" - IRMA presented this workshop August 1, 2008 at the AIDS 2008 pre-conference sponsored by the Global Forum for MSM and HIV - "The Invisible Men: Gay Men and Other MSM in the Global HIV/AIDS Epidemic." IRMA presenters included Jim Pickett, Jeremy Wing Kien Kwan, Olanrewaju Onigbogi, and Dr. Javier Lama.


IRMA Vice-Chair Bridget Haire presented on rectal microbicides at the 2008 Microbicides and HIV Biomedical Prevention Symposium, held at Sydney University in Sydney, Australia on July 14 and 15, 2008. Here are her slides.

 

Direct from Delhi - Microbicides 2008 Comes to Sweet Home Chicago, a community forum sponsored by the Chicago Women and Girls HIV Prevention Coalition and IRMA, June 25 in downtown Chicago, provided an update on the current developments in microbicide research and advocacy - direct from the Microbicides 2008 conference held in New Delhi, India. Speakers included Latifa Boyce of the Alliance for Microbicide Development who talked about the microbicide pipeline (click here for her slides), Jim Pickett of IRMA who focused his remarks on rectal microbicides (click here for his slides) and Dazon Dixon Diallo of SisterLove, Inc. who placed everything into a human rights context. Rectal Microbicides Update - presentation slides from New Delhi

amfAR, the UCLA AIDS Institute, and The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine presented a Rectal Microbicides Update, a pre-M2008 satellite symposium, at the Hotel Ashok, New Delhi, India on the 24th of February, 2008, from 9:00 a.m.to noon. The symposium Co-Chairs were Ian McGowan MD PhD FRCP and Rowena Johnston PhD.

The update had the following objectives:

• An overview of recent advances in rectal microbicide development
• Improvements in applicator design
• The role of nonclinical studies in screening rectal microbicide candidates
• An update on advocacy directed towards increasing funding for rectal microbicides

Dr. Peter Anton of UCLA, the Principal Investigator of the MDP-U19 project (often referred to as 'the rectal microbicide flagship program") presented three times in succession at the M2008 in New Delhi on various findings from the first-ever rectal safety study of a NNRTI gel called UC-781.
