The International AIDS Society and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation held a meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, February 29, 2008, focusing on the state of global advocacy for the HIV prevention needs of gay men and men who have sex with men (MSM). Twenty-eight invited leaders participated in a full-day discussion that included an analysis of the current landscape of global MSM-HIV advocacy, reviewed priorities for research and resource allocation, and explored opportunities for leadership and collaboration. "Off the Map: How HIV/AIDS Programming is Failing Same-Sex Practising People in Africa" is the report from the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission which explores the ways in which governments, donors, and NGOs are denying human rights protections to same-sex practising Africans, and are hindering efforts to combat HIV/AIDS among this group.

"Awareness and attitudes regarding microbicides and nonoxynol-9 use in a probability sample of gay men" is a paper authored by Dr. Alex Carballo-Dieguez et.al.

"Magic Bullet or Menace? A spray that's supposed to prevent HIV transmission sounds too good to be true" This cover story from the Chicago Reader (dated November 24, 2006) exposes a supposed microbicide called Genvia.

"Anal Sex is Common Among Women in Drug-Using Populations in Chicago." This study by UIC and the Community Outreach Intervention Projects reveals the prevalence of anal sex among vulnerable women in Chicago.

Microbicides 2006 Short Report. The biannual conference brought together a record number of 1,300 participants in Cape Town. This report discusses the current status of microbicide R&D, encompassing basic and clinical science, social and behavioural science, and community mobilisation and advocacy activities.
